The process is quite simple. You have to apply for the exam taken by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT). Online forms are also available.  After passing of the exam you will be rewarded with the Registered Technologist (RT) status.  The patients can be sure that they are being handled by a professional and skilled technician, ensuring the good quality of treatment, if their technician is RT designated.  The RT status will make sure to your employees that you are well aware of the radiation hazards and medical ethics. Certification is issued by a legal regulatory medical body and not by the country.
While certification is issued by a regulatory body in the state, licensure is issued by the state itself. Licensure is somewhat different from certification. A license is a countenance to practice your art you have gained through schooling or various training.  A licensure procedure differs from state to state and is bounded by the law of that state. Violation of the laws prevalent there is a serious offend that can lead you through court procedures. You can be fined or your license is cancelled for your whole life if you are found guilty. Cancelling of your license means you cannot practice the same profession  again during your whole life.

So what are the procedures in getting a x ray certification?

1.    Formal training
Generally there are 3 types of courses usually offered by x ray technician schools. Completion of your course in any one of them is a must and the school must be accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology. The other requirements include age boundary of 18 years and having high school diploma completed or its GED equivalent. This starts your formal training. The training includes clinical training, medical ethics course, medical terminology dictations and voluntary internships. The internship is the major aspect of training covering 50% of the training session. CGPA of 2.5 is a must to be qualified for the ARRT exams.

2.    Passing the ARRT  certification test
There will be 220 multiple choice questions and you will have 4 hours in solving them. Getting an 75% or above will credit you as being pass in the exam. If you cannot pass your ARRT exam in 3 attempts you must undergo through your formal training session from beginning.

3.    Renewal of your certification
Your certification is valid for two years. For recertification you have to complete 24 hours of regular education within 2 years. Continuous education is not only needed for recertification procedures but also for upgrading your knowledge information and getting knowledge of the newest technologies used.
